Shawnee Hall: Shaping the Future with a Historic Touch

OBU校园内建造的第一座建筑, 肖尼大厅已经服务了大约40人,自成立以来,已有5000名学生, survived an act of domestic terrorism in 1964 when it was struck by an airplane, 并在2023年经受住了EF2级龙卷风. 这座历史建筑不仅经受住了历史的考验, it’s firmly positioned for an amazing future atop Bison Hill.

OBU很激动 to announce a groundbreaking renovation project that will breathe new life into its historic Shawnee Hall. This ambitious undertaking aims to revitalize the first, 肖尼大厅的二楼和三楼, 自1915年成立以来一直是OBU的基石.

The Shawnee Hall Campaign is driven by a few fundamental objectives, each designed to enhance the educational experience for students 和 address critical needs in the community.

A primary project goal is to bring OBU’s educational facilities in line with best practices by modernizing educational space. Shawnee Hall will undergo a remarkable transformation, with 12 newly updated classrooms boasting a total of 472 seats. These state-of-the-art learning environments will provide students with cutting-edge spaces to enhance their education, 磨练他们的技能, 为美好的未来做好准备.

The campaign also seeks to increase the number of faculty offices within Shawnee Hall. This expansion will create valuable space for various 学校 和 divisions, fostering collaboration 和 innovation among educators. It will further strengthen OBU’s commitment to nurturing its academic community.

作为改造的一部分, Shawnee Hall will see significant improvements in energy efficiency 和 safety. The replacement of the HVAC system will align the building with CDC guidelines, ensuring a comfortable 和 healthy learning environment. 另外, the installation of new fire suppression 和 alarm systems will enhance life safety measures, while updated ADA-compliant restrooms will promote inclusivity 和 accessibility on all floors.

肖尼大厅在OBU的使命中起着关键作用, offering core education courses for all students 和 catering to specific needs within the Henry F. McCabe Family School of Education 和 the Marriage 和 Family Therapy program.

近年来, the dem和 for emergency teaching certificates in Oklahoma has surged dramatically, 从2011-2012年的32张到现在惊人的4张,574 in 2022-2023. OBU is committed to supporting students who hold these one-year certificates in their journey toward full certification. The university has initiated the Alternative Teaching Certificate program, 称为ACCESS, to address this pressing need 和 make a lasting impact on education in the state.

此外, the field of certified marriage 和 family therapists is experiencing rapid growth, projected to increase by 14 percent from 2021 to 2031, 根据美国.S. 劳工统计局. OBU’s Marriage 和 Family Therapy graduate program equips students to provide therapeutic services from a relational 和 systemic perspective, serving diverse settings such as counseling agencies, 学校, 医院, 教堂, 私人执业.

“This renovation project at Shawnee Hall is not just about updating a building; it’s about transforming lives 和 communities, 或者像我们在野牛山所说的, 塑造未来,” Dr. 希斯一个. OBU总裁托马斯说. “The enhanced facilities will not only benefit our students 和 faculty but will also serve as a testament to our commitment to providing a faith-forward education that prepares individuals for the world.”

通过发起肖尼大厅运动, OBU旨在解决关键的教育需求, 提高学生参与度, 和 create a lasting legacy in the heart of its campus. The campaign’s impact will extend far beyond the walls of Shawnee Hall, strengthening OBU’s recruitment efforts 和 its dedication to serving both its students 和 the community for generations to come.
